A wonderful early 20th century Welsh sycamore pole turned stool.

Traditional in design, with thick dished single slab sycamore 'cheese' top, and raised on three turned ash legs.

To the underside is a lovely detail, a series of impressed markings which read; T.D Xmas 1911. Obviously the initials of the maker of the stool or the intended user, along with the year of its construction. It would be reasonable to think this was therefore a Christmas gift to someone. This little insight into the why and when adds a great deal of charm to the piece.

Another detail to note is the odd leg, with two matching supports with additional turned details. The third leg is simple and slightly longer in comparison. The stool still bares a historic layer of muted black paint. This paint has worn back through use. The difference in the legs would most likely suggest a historic replacement. However given this type of vernacular furniture construction would make use of the timber available. It is also possible the leg is an original component.

The natural age related wear to the painted finish reveals the warmth of the sycamore timber beneath. The dished seat has become gently polished through use.

An absolute wonderful example of antique Welsh country furniture.

Dimensions :-

Height - 35cm

Top diameter approximately - 31cm

Distance between base of legs approximately - 37cm

With honest wear and tear as you would hope to find.

Structurally sound and bares weight as intended.

The stool sits ever so slightly at an angle, which adds charm rather than detracts from the piece.

Minor marks to the seat as illustrated.
