A 19th century antique Welsh elm tavern settle with high backrest
Code: 10440
Dimensions:
A stunning provincial antique elm Welsh tavern settle bench, with high backrest.
With gentle shaped elbow rest ends.
Dating to the mid 19th century, this was originally used in a tavern in Cwmbran, Southern Wales.
Wonderfully understated and with fantastic patina. The dark stain has worn back in high contact areas, revealing the grain of the timber beneath. This is a good indicator of the settle's long life of heavy use by patrons.
The particularly high backrest is constructed from wide planks, making it ideal to keep off drafts and retain the heat from a fire.
Well proportioned to seat three adults, making it perfect for a kitchen / dining space.
The elm boards throughout have a lovely warm colour, and well figured grain.
