A Welsh 19th century antique boat builder’s plank on frame half hull scale model
Code: 10447
Dimensions:
A hard to find antique half hull model of a boat, demonstrating plank on frame construction, exposing the vessel’s ribs.
Fresh to market and recently discovered in a building at Slate Quay in Caernarfon, Wales. There is a noted history of boat builders at the site.
The model is constructed in pine and dates to the late 19th century. Originally these models were crafted to help visualise the form prior to construction of the full size boat.
Meticulously made by hand, this half hull model has a beautiful prominent curved form. It is mounted to the original flat pine board allowing for it to be hung on a wall.
A fantastic piece of Welsh maritime history.
The model although only constructed from thin strips of timber has survived incredibly well.
Genuine antique examples like this are particularly sough after and have become increasingly difficult to find.
Dimensions :-
Width - 120cm / 47 1/4"
Height - 15cm / 6"
Depth - 17.5cm / 7"
A rare piece which would enhance any interior.
With just minor age relates wear and tear.
The end of one rib has parted slightly, however it is still fixed down by the nail head.
Some minor stains to the interior, these appear historic.
Considering the model’s rarity and delicate nature, we would need to double box and ship with adequate insurance. This is therefore represented in the cost to ship.
We would strongly recommend collection in person.
