A scarce antique 19th century German monkey toy
Code: 10253
Dimensions:
A charming and particularly scarce 19th century monkey 'nodder' toy from Germany.
This wonderful anthropomorphic toy, is formed as a adult monkey feeding their infant with a bottle of milk.
With lovely original moving glass eyes and glass feeding bottle still present.
The toy is constructed from firm papier mache which is covered in a faux animal fur.
When the toy is picked up or gently moved the glass eyes of the adult monkey move in a humorous manner.
Th face of the infant monkey is nicely painted with a sweet expression.
Measuring 18.3cm tall.
With age realted wear and tear as illustrated, however considering these are not easily found in any condition, this is a rare chance to own one of these sought after antique toys.
The tongue is found in a fixed position.
One of the feet on the lager monkey has a historic repair, this appears to be carved in wood. Although it does add a little more character to this well loved toy.
Minor loss of the fur covering on the bottom of the large monkey.
Small hairline crack to the arm of the smaller monkey. Possibly a repair.
The head is found in a fixed position.
