An interesting cased pair of early 20th century 'Speera' binocular magnifiers, by W. Watson and Sons of London.

Made to be fully adjustable and to allow the wearer the ability to complete precise work, these were widely used by watchmakers and jewellers.

The glasses consist of two engineered lenses, each of these lenses were made of two different glass sections bonded together with Canada Balsam to reduce chromatism.

The frames are rolled gold with an adjustable fixing above each of the lenses, allowing them to be set up specifically for the indivdual wearing them.

The glasses are housed in their original burgundy case, which is stamped in gilt lettering to the outer and inner.

A desireable 'steampunk' collectible and also sought after to be used as intended for fine detailed close up work.

The case measures 12.2cm long x 4.8cm wide x 3.5cm deep.

Frames in good order.

Case with some wear and tear and some parting to the faux leather textile where the lid folds over, as expected from years of use.

The two sections of glass of one lens have been reaffixed during their life, the adhesive can be seen around the edge of the joint, this slight bubbling between the two surfaces can be seen very slightly when viewing through the lens. The two sections are not aligned as perfectly as when originally produced, but this does not affect the magnification.
