A large antique 19th century Fry's chocolate enamel advertising sign
Code: 10183
Dimensions:
A large Victorian enamel advertising sign for Fry's chocolate.
This is an early example of advertising for the famous British confectioner, measuring just over 5ft tall.
At the time the sign was produced by the Enamel Co. ltd of Birmingham, Fry's had been awarded 200 prize medals.
The size and scale of the sign, with the bold white font on cobalt blue background makes for a great display piece.
The statement 'Makers To The Queen' illustrates that Fry's had a Royal warrant of appoinment. This was of course a level of prestige only few managed to achieve.
J. S. Fry & Sons, Ltd, better known as Fry's were the first company to produce the solid chocolate bar in 1847, an impressive feat at the time.
This would make a fantastic additon to a kitchen interior, or as decoration for a commercial project.
Measuring: 153cm tall x 91.3cm wide
Maker's name present to bottom edge of sign.
With age related wear and tear, the sign was originally hung on the exterior of a shop to advertise the products sold at the premises. Therefore losses to the enamel and stains etc are commonplace for signs of this age.
Please consult the close up listing images for overall condition.
Sign bows slightly under its weight, however when affixed to a wall the sign sits flush as originally intended.
