A historically important antique WW1 Roll Of Honour painting on cotton
Code: 10091
Dimensions:
A very interesting and thought provoking WW1 remembrance watercolour painting on fine cotton.
In its original frame this antique roll of honour was hand painted to mark the loss of Joe Barnes.
Joe sadly died during the battle of Hill 70 Bapaume on the western front.
This beautiful painting also documents the service of Joe’s brothers Alfred and Albert during the First World War.
To the bottom of the painting is an inscription that reads ‘ A present from Albert, Xmas 1920’.
We can therefore deduce this wonderful work was the efforts of Albert and most likely gifted to member of his family, possibly a parent at Christmas in 1920 after his return from the war.
The work that went into this is very impressive with the use of both watercolour and a gold paint detailing around the cross baring his deceased brother’s name.
It’s particularly nice that details of each of the three brothers service during WW1 was documented.
