Rare Antique Elements Of Anatomy By Jones Quain 1837 - illustrated
Code: 10098
A rare leather bound early 19th century fourth edition of Elements Of Anatomy.
Printed in 1837 by Samuel Bentley, London.
This very sought after book was written by the Irish anatomist Jones Quain.
Jones Quain was professor of both Anatomy and Physiology at the University of London.
He first published this fascinating book in 1828.
As mentioned in the preface Professor Quain used the talented illustrators Mr. William Bagg and Mr. W. J. E. Wilson.
All illustrations were carried out from their observations of human body preparations done exclusively for this book.
This was and still is a highly regarded work on the study of human anatomy.
A must for any serious collector in this field.
The book is extensively illustrated throughout, along with four full plates. Two of which show close ups of cellular sectional views, and two are studies of the brain.
The book includes hand written ink inscriptions and notes, made by the doctor who owned the book. Along with a sepia ink illustration of the human hand on the inside of the front cover.
The book has survived very well, please consult the listing images for close up details and for the overall condition of the binding etc. the front page has a small clipped section to the top corner.
The binding is generally good but please consider that this is an early publication and a book that would have been well used during its life.
The plates have some foxing but this adds charm.
Certainly not a publication that will turn up often.
