A rare antique 19th century Philips' Life-Size Anatomical Model Of The Human Body.

We have come across countless editions of Philips' Anatomical Model of the Human Body over the years, all of which are the usual small hand held version.

This however is not hand held. It's life size!

The large 19th century folder bares the following label;

Philips' Life-Size Anatomical Model Of The Human Body.

Originally used as a teaching aid in medical universities, this very scare piece would have been hung by the suspension wire.

The lecturer would then turn back each layer with its incredible detailed depiction of human musculature, nervous system and skeletal form. A must for the teaching of students.

With the wonderful detailed organs still present which open outwards to reveal their internal structure.

The individual body layers have illustration to both front and rear, to allow the full study of the human anatomy.

Research tells us these are certainly uncommon to say the least, so we are very happy to have this in our hands.

A serious collector's piece, with no others currently available online.

Bound in its original heavy duty folder with the label to the front.

An absolute wonder and one not to miss!

Such a rare piece.

With good vibrant colour.

Most of the metal tabs which holds the sections in place are still present.

With age related wear and tear as illustrated. The folds of the large pages have weakened and split in areas but given the fragile nature of this and its considerable age this is to be expected.

Two upper torso pages has detatched.

Some minor staining to the bottom of the folder, most likely historic water staining.

Some small tears to the folds on some of the organs. Most still remain intact.

This is a very uncommon piece and given the nature of how it would have originally been used, and the fragile nature of paper, the fact it has survived at all is impressive.
