An Edwardian antique glazed small shop display counter

An antique Edwardian glazed shop display counter of small proportions.

Found in ebonised finish, with all the original glass panels present and in good order.

This is a small example with two full height sliding doors to the rear,  making it a very desirable example.

To the interior are two metal brackets which support a glass shelf. The brackets are height adjustable, making the under counter display space more flexible. The glass shelf can be easily removed if required, it is just resting on cork pads.

The base of the interior is also finished in ebonised paintwork. It has early Japanese newspaper advertisement pages placed on top currently, these were found inside. The paper can simply be removed, it is not fixed down in any way. We have included a listing image to show this.

The sliding doors allow for both doors to sit centrally giving access to both sides at once, alternatively the doors can be opened individually if required.

The counter has a thick decorative moulding to the bottom edge, and sits on the original four short legs.

With charming age related wear to the original painted finish in areas of contact, revealing the timber beneath. This is isolated to the front corners and back top surface. This illustrates the long life of use, and where both customer and shop keeper's hand rested and made contact with counter.

The counter is rock solid and ready to use. 

Both doors fully operational, and slide with ease.

With just two minor nibbles to the edge of the glass shelf, one front right leading edge, the other to the back corner.

Age related wear and small surface scratches to the glass top from wear money would have been counted etc.

Small historic repair to back of the counter. A nail was used to secure a small section of surface timber. This was not a structural repair, see listing image.
