An antique early 20th century bone box, containing half a medical human skeleton
Code: 10260
An early 20th century bone box, containing half a human skeleton.
Produced by Robert Whitelaw of Aberdeen.
Whitelaw, originally formed as Pettie and Whitelaw, were formed in 1894.
They were a company specialising in medical supplies and surgical equipment.
Unlike the more prominent Adam Rouilly or Millikin & Lawley, examples of medical half skeletons by the Scottish company Whitelaw are much less common.
The half skeleton is found in its original pine box, bearing the company label. Circa 1910.
The skeleton has a yellow patina.
The skull with hinged jaw and removable cap.
With only a few teeth missing.
Some of the bones have blue and red pigment still present. This was used to illustrate muscle and ligament attachment.
Appears complete. The foot, hand and spine are all still fully articulated.
A rare survivor indeed.
