SOLD

A wonderful early 19th century pine box settle with high panelled backrest.

Constructed with the usual central hinged seat panel, and a much more uncommon and charming cupboard access to one end.

Well proportioned and comfortable, with the many years of use creating a lovely warm tone and smooth finish to the timber.

A fantastic example, which originated from a large Derbyshire estate.

Raised on simple sleight supports, and with nicely turned armrest supports.

With small traces of repairs over its life, these are now well worm back and play into the piece’s charm.

The cupboard door to the left hand end of the box base an addition which was added a little after its construction. The door shows all the signs of use and most likely was added during the mid to the late 19th century.

Dimensions:

Widest point – 141.5cm

Height – 133cm

Depth – 45cm

Seat height – 40.5cm

Seat depth – 39cm

Backrest height – 87.5cm

A lovely light example of a country house settle, which stands out from the darker examples, a perfect piece to go back into a kitchen interior.

With obvious age related wear, discolouration, and historic repairs.

Structurally sound and ready to use.

The hinged section in the seat panel has been reinforced during its life as these generally are.

The seat panel as a whole is constructed from a relatively slim pine board which will over time develop stress cracks which run with the grain. The seat panel can easily support the weight of two adults as intended. The cracks do not affect its integrity.

Overall a wonderful piece of country house furniture which serves as both a seat and storage. Ideal for a small interior where space is tight or multi-use is required
