A good size antique early 19th century copper planter of circular form.

With riveted construction, and beautifully natural verdigris patination throughout.

Orignally these 'coppers' were found in domestic wash houses and used as vats to hold hot water.

These particular example was salvaged from a cottage in Leighton Buzzard which dates the early 1800s.

Generally they are now used as planters or for storing logs by the fireplace.,

Two small drainage holes are present to its base, as the previous owner who has owned it from the 70's used it as a planter.

Dimensions:-

Height - 36cm

Diameter - 49cm approx.

The verdigris patina the copper has developed over its long life is exceptionally good.

Its size makes it ideal to use on a step by a door outside or even in a more limited area such as a balcony.

With age related wear and tear.

The copper sits slightly unevenly when empty.

Considering its age the vat has survived very well.

Two small drainage holes in base and a minor hole in the side as illustrated.
