Originally made in the late 18th / early 19th century, this chair has lots of character and some evidence of alterations throughout its long life.
The body of the chair is certainly very early 19th century in date, with peg construction suggesting slightly earlier and therefore possibly late 18th century.
The seat has worn beautifully through use and the produced a great patina.
The lower sections of the legs have at some point been cut and replaced, most likely due to historic rot or worm damage.
Although replaced timber, the wear to the bottom front cross stretcher shows this must have happened a long time ago.
With extensively carved back rest, this would make a fantastic addition to a hallway or kitchen.
We have edged on the side of caution with dating the chair. There are elements which suggest this is certainly at least 18th century in age.
