An antique 8ft Victorian pine school bench with seat storage

An impressive 8ft Victorian painted pine school bench with seat storage.

This wonderful bench dates to the latter part of the 19^th century, and would have been used in a school classroom.

With five individual storage compartments to the base, these could have been locked to allow students to securely store their textbooks and personal belongings.

At 8ft 2” long and in old pale yellow painted finish, this would make the ideal piece to take centre stage in a kitchen interior. Its generous proportions allow enough room for five adults to be seated comfortably.

Constructed in solid pine and boasting charming details including well carved scrollwork armrests, and applied number plaques to the back section of the seat.

The bench is well formed and sits soundly, with the centre leg breaking up the extensive long line of the seat. Each of the original seat compartment escutcheons are still present.

Unlike many examples available on the market, this has both the scale and addition of storage. 

With some nice age related wear and tear, this has revealed the surface of the timber, creating a fantastic patina.

With age related wear to the painted surface as illustrated. 

Sits well and bares the weight of five adults.

Some very minor movement to left arm rest joint, however still structurally sound.

Years have use have resulted in the seat panels rubbing slightly when lifted and lowered, but these do shut and stay upright as intended. 

One seat panel lacking one hinge, however it will still lift and shut. Some hinges to panels have been replaced during its many years of use.

As illustrated in the listing photographs, the panels are still mostly aligned to each other, with only minor changes over the years from extensive use.

An historic repair to right hand back leg, this is only a small surface section and does not affect the integrity of the leg. This is just part of the character of the bench.
