An antique 19th century pine barrel back settle
Code: 10350
Dimensions:
A handsome mid to late 19th century antique pine barrel back settle.
Fresh to market, and sourced from a farmhouse close to the Welsh borders. Found in untouched condition, with a lovely light colour and excellent time worn patina.
The settle was used in the kitchen close to the fireplace, offering people a place to sit, with its shrouded design keeping out unwanted draughts.
Being of boarded construction, with a high barrel backrest, and vernacular asymmetrical design. One end panel is unshaped, suggesting this end was placed tight to the wall, whilst the other has a gentle wing shaped armrest.
The settle has a typical famhouse style, quite understated and focused on praticality more so than aesthetics.
It is well constructed in solid pine, with the seat panel nice and deep, allowing for 2 adults to sit comfortably.
The cubby space below the seat makes this a great usable seating and storage option, an ideal addition to a hallway or kitchen.
