A well proportioned antique 18th century Welsh wrought iron rushlight with candle holder.

Mounted into a hefty beech base.

Rushlights were a common form of domestic lighting in rural homes. The nip would hold thin pieces of rush which would have been soaked in fat. A primitive and cheaper alternative to candles.

A beautiful piece of forged folk art.

Dimensions:-

Total height - 31.5cm

Base height - 11cm

Base diameter - 10cm approx

With age related wear and tear.

Honest historic patina to the surface of the iron.

Base is most likely later, but is period timber that is in keeping.
