From a Yorkshire estate clearance, the previous owners bought quality English period oak pieces, particularly 17th century.
This coffer along with many pieces they collected were sourced from the world renowned Bonhams auction house.
Sensibly the owners left all the Bonhams auction stickers on the coffer including its lot number.
This is always recommended to help with provenance etc.
Obviously the coffer being sold by Bonhams shows the quality of the piece.
Of peg construction and with fine details carving across each of the three panels, and along the top frieze. Panelling to each end.
The coffer has a two section pine hinged top, with the charming original blacksmith forged hinges still present.
With nice deep warm patina from many years of use.
The interior has during its life been lined in thin metal. After closer inspection we believe this could be removed relatively easily if the future owners chose to.
