An antique 11ft long Victorian mahogany framed Clothiers shop sign

A wonderful large original 19th century antique Clothiers shop sign.

"THE BOYS CLOTHIERS"

Formed from a single thick timber board, with stunning incised carved and gilded lettering under reversed painted glass. The board is fitted within its original thick mahogany frame.

An impressive survivor from the Victorian period,  the sign would have originally be suspended to advertise that a shop or department retailed boys / mens clothing.

The deep carved lettering still boasts bright gilt paint.

The glazing is thick and sectional, and reverse painted with deep brown-red paint, which creates a stunning combination with the gilt font.

Height - 19cm  /  7 1/2"

Depth - 5cm  /  2"

A rare find considering the sign's scale and complete originality.

The perfect statement piece for any vintage clothing retailer, or within the home as eye catching decoration.

With some age related wear and tear and deterioration to the paint on the reverse of the glass. 

Some cracks to the glass as illustarted although all glass is well fixed and not loose.

The two end sections of moulding are seperated but are with the sign as shown. They could be refitted with some work, however the sign displays very well without. We have chosen to leave the sign as found which gives the end user the choice to do as they wish.

Given the sign is over 3m in lenth it is heavy, so this should be considered if it is to be fixed to a wall.
