A rare 18th century continental antique ecclesiastical painted panel of saint Andrew the Apostle.

This is of three painted panels we have available, each from the same installation.

Each panel measuring just over 5ft 6" and depicting an individual Apostle;

Saint Philip, Saint Andrew and Saint Matthias.

Originally these would have been part of a much larger installation in a church or cathedral, which would have depicted all 12 Apostles.

The polychrome oils are painted directly onto the pine boards, with some traces of gilding to outer edge, suggesting they at one point sat inside a gilt frame.

These work incredibly well as a trio, an ideal interior design feature, showcased together or separately within the same space.

Each will be listed individually on our website, although in our opinion they should remain together ideally, this allows more flexibility to all buyers.

This particular panel depicts the Apostle Andrew, with a subtle hint of a halo over his head. Shown standing upon a plinth, with a named inscription to the front.

The colours have aged wonderfully, with the paint still showing good vivid hues.

The one board is made from three panels which are now separated.

With some historic losses to the painted surface and signs of exposure to water to the back of the panel.
