Code: 10367
Dimensions:
A wonderful early 19th century West Country antique stick and hoop back Windsor armchair.
Found with traces of original black paint, which in areas of contact has worn away to reveal the beautiful timber beneath.
The chair is substantial with a nine stick comb high backrest . Beautifully constructed by hand with a double hoop and well turned front arm supports.
Made in ash and elm with a generous well figured saddle seat. Raised on sturdy legs with simple turned details, and joined by a shaped H-cross stretcher. The ring detail to the base of each leg has worn back through many years of contact.
Found with traces of dry paint and some original varnish which has become nicely burnished through a long life of use.
A good solid characterful seat which is particularly comfortable. Pleasing to the eye with a warmth to the chair's honest patina.
Slightly crooked and all the better for it.
A truly wonderful chair, one of the nicest we have seen.
The perfect stand alone seat for any cottage or country home.
