A rare and large antique English enamel advertising sign for The Campbell Gas Engine Company of Kingston, Halifax.

Hugh Campbell established the company in 1885.

In 1890 Campbell supplied the engine to drive the exhibits at the Engineers, Electricians, Builders and Ironmongers exhibition. They then went on to exhibit their wonderful mechanical deisgns at the Crystal Palace Electical Exhibition.

Used world wide and known for their efficiency, Campbells became one of the largest suppliers of gas and oil engines during the latter part of the 19th century, and in to the 1900s.

The sign states the impressive distribution network the company developed,  supplying to:-

The Admiralty, War & India Offices, Crown Agents For Colonies, Principal Railway Co. and Foreign Governments.

The sign measures 6ft 5" wide x 2ft tall and has a stunning primary colour way of yellow, blue and and red. It was produced by the Patent Enamel Co. of Birmingham.

With obvious age related wear and tear, and some losses. However given its scale and rarity, and the advertising genre, it makes for a desirable piece indeed.
