This wonderful antique seamans's chest was made specifically for the shipwright (ship builder / carpenter) of a vessel.

Hand made and constructed in hefty pine planks, with the original bound rope carry handles still held within the stout keepers at either end.
The sloped top still has its orignal wrought iron catch used to lock the chest, securing the valuable tools that would have been stored inside.
With the lid opened, it reveals an interior comprising of a run of three individual drawers over large storage area.
To the underside of the lid are two saw holders.
The wear and patina of the paint is a lovely part of the chest's charm.
This is a rare and early example of a shipwrights chest, and would now make for truly unique storage for the home.
The perfect size and shape to sit at the base of a bed, or even below a window. It could also be placed onto chest of drawers and used in a loftier position.
Certainly a desirable item for a modern shipwright, or for use in period film / televison production.
Rock solid in its build, and with charming diamond carved embellishments to the handle keepers.
