A rare antique 19th century magician’s ‘Blow Book’
Code: 10210
Bilder Zauberei, Conjuror’s magic picture flip book dating to circa 1875.
Most likely German.
A particularly rare example, of these sought after illusion publications.
With wonderful pictorial covers to both front and back, and containing beautiful hand coloured engraved plates.
The plates comprise various subject matter, including animal, silhouette, comedy, type face, the weird and wonderful symbology, along with the usual blank pages.
No title or publishing details also as usual, no instruction slip present.
These intriguing books were designed so that with a blow of air by the conjuror and a slight of hand, as pages were flipped over, an illusion was therefore produced in which an image would seem to transform or disappear, right before the spectator’s eyes.
Given these books were handled a great deal, and saw heavy use, these ‘Blow Books’ hardly ever survive, particularly in good condition.
Measuring – 15.5cm x 10.5cm
33 plates + covers.
With obvious wear and tear to outer binding, plates remain mostly free of staining.
Spine with damage.
Some light spotting, fore-edges stepped and notched as issued.
