A stunning provincial antique pine Welsh tavern settle bench, with high back rest.
With single well shaped elbow rest ends.
Dating to the mid 19th century, this was originally used in a tavern in central Wales.
Wonderfully primitve and with fantastic patina developed from a long life of use.
The particuarlly high backrest is constructed from wide planks, making it ideal to keep off drafts and retain the heat from a fire.
The pine boards have a lovely warm colour, and well figured grain.
An historic repair utilising an iron bolt is present to the top right of the settle, which originally was used to hold a weakend section of the carcass in place. This is a lovely unique feature and adds to the piece's character.
Its size is ideal to seat three adults, along with its rustic charm, making it perfect for a kitchen / dining space.
Nice early rustic examples like this are becoming harder to find.
