A charming Georgian English barrel back settle.

Constructed in Elm and pine, which has developed both good colour and patina. 

The original iron hook present is a nice feature. This would have been used to fix the settle to a wall. 

Originally the settle would most likely have been used in a tavern offering people a place to sit, with its shrouded design keeping out unwanted draughts.

Being of boarded construction, with a high barrel backrest and gentle shaped wing end panels

A wonderful honest patina has developed on the arm rests showing a considerable amount of use over a long period of time. 

The antique settle is well proportioned and would seat three to four adults.

The substantial thick elm boards are well figured throughout.

With the cubby space below the seat, making this a great usable seating and storage option, an ideal addition to a hallway or kitchen.  

The original central support below the seat is still present, ensuring it bares weight as intended.

This is a lovely early example and a particular favourite among the many settles we have sold.

With honest wear and tear with minor historic losses.

Structurally sound and ready to use.

One crack running down the right hand end panel as illustrated. This does not affect its structural integrity.

Some additional timber has been added around the base boards, after careful inspection this does not seem to be for any structural reason, but more so aesthetic reasons. It also is clear this timber was fitted a long time ago.

Some minor gaps in the back boards, and small cracks present. 

One small section of back board has been replaced during the life of the settle. Also a small section of the reinforcement to the back, these both are old historic repairs.

Only very small traces of historic non active woodworm present which is surprising considering the settle’s age.
