A Georgian primitive Irish oak antique farmhouse chair
Code: 10364
Dimensions:
A Georgian primitive Irish oak antique farmhouse chair.
A wonderful primitive Irish oak chair dating to the early 19th century.
With simple plain plank seat, and straight upright triple splat backrest.
This well built rustic chair, is formed with a joint frame supported by sturdy cross stretchers, fixed with pegs.
Although quite understated in its style, and of an aesthetic that might often be overlooked, the historic repairs it has seen elevate it over more generic examples.
During the chair's long life, blacksmith forged heavy duty iron straps were fitted to the upright of the backrest. This small but tactile detail along with the age related wear developed through daily use, have all combined to produce a chair with great character.
The tops of the two backrest supports have rounded down nicely , along with other areas of contact.
The chair leans slightly, which makes it all the more unique and interesting.
Still solid and baring weight, this makes for a great side chair. For us its’s primitive and simple style, along with rustic repair, make it worthy to stand along with period hedge chairs and other vernacular seating.
