A diminutive antique Scottish burr elm candle stool, circa 1880.

This charming 19th century circular stool has a thick burr elm seat, which is raised on turned short pine legs.

Found with its historic painted surface, which has worn back on the seat revealing the wonderful small burr grain configuration in the timber.

Originally the stool would have been placed upon a table with a candle placed on top. This would allow for a light source to be at the correct height whilst lace making or for other rural crafts.

The stool has lot going for it, particularly its beautiful figured seat, and the traces of original paint.

The legs are time worn just as you would like to find them.

Dimensions:-

Height - 19.2cm

Seat diameter - 22cm

Distance between feet - 22cm

Structurally sound, all legs well fixed.

With age realted wear and tear.

Minor crack to base of one leg.

One leg showing more wear than others to front edge as illustrated.
