A bank of antique late Victorian apothecary shop drawers

An impressive bank of late Victorian apothecary shop drawers, dating to around 1890.

These beautiful antique drawers constructed in pine with quality mahogany veneers, and consisting of 16 drawers in total.

With two rows of 12, over a row of 4 larger.

The beautiful run of chemist drawers are housed within a contrasting carcass with dark ebonised veneer.

Many of the drawer fronts still with their original reverse painted and gilt glass contents label (LUG label), and each with their wonderful glass handles.

The drawers were originally part of the original fittings of a Boots Chemist in Nottingham.

The stunning labels give a fascinating insight into the medicinal compounds and herbal remedies that were offered by a Victorian chemist. One in particular is CHIRATA, an Indian bitter herb, taken as a drink. This was used to treat many ailments including stomach and liver issues.

There are original paper labels to a number of the drawer carcasses, some with hand written inscriptions.

Ideal in size and scale for a kitchen interior, along with a myriad of other uses.

Structurally sound and ready to use.

A proportion of the backboards are lacking, however this does not affect use. All drawer stops are present which ensure drawers operate as intended.

Please consult the listing images for condition of labels.

No signs of wood worm. Some minor historic repairs to small sections of the veneers on the carcass, which adds to the patina of the piece.
