An antique 19th century mahogany campaign chest of drawers
Code: 10196
Dimensions:
A 19th century mahogany campaign chest of drawers by York House of London , otherwise known as the Junior Army & Navy Store.
The stunning two part chest was known as the ‘plain chest’ in the maker’s product catalogue.
When placing an order for a chest there was an option to add a more secure Bramah lock to a drawer.
As you can see from the photographs the chest’s original owner chose this additional customisation.
To the left side hand side are the original hooks which would have allowed the carcass to be affixed whilst in transit or out at sea.
The drawer fronts are fitted with flush brass handles and decorated with line moulding.
Dimensions:-
98.8cm wide
90.7cm high
44cm deep
Drawer internal dimensions available upon request.
The mahogany exhibits a wonderful warm golden hue.
With a good time worn patina.
Some age related wear and tear as expected for a piece of this age and how it was used.
Minor loss to one area of brass trim as illustrated.
Two of the fixing hooks lacking to right hand side.
Some minor losses to veneer.
Small area of damage to bottom of one drawer liner. Does not affect use or structurally integrity. Illustrated in listing image.
Overall a lovely piece.
