A Welsh antique 19th century pitch pine box settle
Code: 10436
Dimensions:
A well proportioned and comfortable, mid 19th century Welsh pitch pine box settle. Dating to the mid 19th century.
Constructed in solid pitch pine and with traditional pegged joints and panelled backrest. The many years of use has developed a lovely warm tone and smooth finish to the timber.
Fresh to market, this is a charming example of Welsh Victorian vernacular furniture, with a simple single lift up panel to the seat.
Understated in its design, and of good proportion, allowing seating for two adults comfortably.
The armrests have worn down nicely with an honest patina, and are raised on well turned supports. The lift up seat panel is particularly wide allowing good access to the storage space.
This would be a great addition to a cottage kitchen, with the storage within the seat section perfect for boots, blankets, toys, etc.
The backrest reclines generously, which combined with the seat height and depth, creates a comfortable seat.

Overall a wonderful piece of rural Welsh furniture which serves as both a seat and storage. Ideal for a small interior where space is tight or multi-use is required.
Evidence of non active historic woodworm, this has been treated additionally for peace of mind.
