A Victorian swing back pitch pine railway / chapel bench

A wonderful Victorian swing back bench constructed from pitch pine and cast iron. 

Originally from a monastery in Stone, Staffordshire, along with the five others we have for sale. 

The antique benches were used in the Sunday school as they allowed for the children to sit facing the back of the building for the Sunday school teachings. This was due to the swing back rests which can be pushed forward or backward, allowing seating either side without moving the entire bench. 

This particular example is found in a lovely old orange painted finish, which has worn well over all the years and developed a great patina. 

The cast iron supports are well made and terminate in well formed club shape feet. 

The seat back and seat are made in rock solid pitch pine. 

A great size for hallway, conservatory, boot room, also ideal for a cafe / bar. These make for a more comfortable alternative to the bier Keller benches.

The bench has age related wear and tear as illustrated. Cracks to either end of the seat plank as expected. 

Cast iron is sound and fully working. 

No worm.
