A rare Welsh primitive Georgian antique vernacular elm hearth stool
Code: 10428
Dimensions:
A wonderfully rustic Georgian Welsh hearth stool, with thick wide elm plank seat. With simple splayed legs each fixed with traditional through wedge joint construction.
A wider than normal stool, low in design, and displaying incredibly rich well figured grain.
Although the stool follows a simple traditional country construction method, it boasts beautiful primitive embellishments. With regular notched carving to the edge on each of the shorter sides, and a deep reeded line running the full length on both of the longer sides. The stool’s long life of use can be seen in the wear to these details, which have become well rounded.
Both the size of the stool and the decoration methods used make this a rarer standout example of traditional antique Welsh country furniture.
The stool has an honest well developed patina and colour.
