A rare 19th century cock fighting chair of very unusual design
Code: 10106
A wonderful antique 19th century cock fighting chair of very unusual design, the likes of which we have never seen before.
Most likely French in origin, and possibly a bespoke one off commission. The design allowing for the user to lean forward to take part in the gambling and observation of the fighting, but also to be able to lean back and take comfort from the backrest.
The chair is raised on slender legs which are French in their styling , terminating on the original wooden casters.
A very interesting piece given the social history behind its original use.
Dimensions:-
H:76cm W:56cm D84cm
Seat height 44.5cm
Cock fight chairs are very sought after and always command a good price, this example could be considered museum worthy given its very unusual design and lack of comparable examples.
General wear and tear, a minor tear to the upholstery of the seat.
Fringing still well attached.
Padding all in good order.
No signs of worm.
Appears to have been reupholstered during its life.
The back casters have worn down probably from the seats being moved back and forward, to ensure stability now the chair would be better suited placed up to a wall.
