A wonderful Victorian pine gypsy table with eight pointed top, and raised over a slender tripod base.

The elegant tripod turned supports meet at a central sphere support.

Found in a charming historic deep orange painted finish. The paint has gently worn over time, adding to the overall aesthetic.

This type of table became popular from the mid 19th century, the light weight design was ideal for use within the home. Often referenced as fortune teller tables, this is considered more a romanticised idea referencing nomadic travellers of the time. Earlier examples were made to be packed down flat for ease of storage, and use in Gypsy caravans. These earlier examples may well have been used by ‘fortune tellers’.  These practical tables were also widely used for the playing card games.

This would make an ideal side or lamp table.

Structurally sound and ready to use.

Signs of a fringe having been attached at some point (nail holes around the table top edge).

Minor localised historic non active woodworm to underside of top. This has been treated additionally for peace of mind.
