A 19th century antique English pine and oak high barrel back tavern settle
Code: 10365
Dimensions:
An impressive provincial antique pine and oak tavern settle bench, with high barrel backrest.
Dating to the mid 19th century, and sourced from Kent in the south east of England.
Wonderfully primitive and with a strong rustic aesthetic. With hand carved details to the front of each end panel, these being the settle’s only real embellishment.
The particularly high backrest, makes it ideal for keeping off drafts and holding the heat from a fire.
The pine boards have a lovely warm colour to them, and have well figured grain.
The armrests being formed from oak give good durability to the settle. These have worn gently over its long life of use.
Its size is ideal to seat three adults, along with its rustic charm, making it perfect for a kitchen / dining space.
The original centre support to the underside of the seat, ensures the settle can still seat three adults with ease. It is strong and hefty example, which would serve well for every day use.
Good honest wear and tear have developed across the settle, which adds to it's simple rural design.
The seat panel has developed a well polished patina. There are two original iron plates to it's underside, used to fix the two seat planks together.
