A primitive early 19th century antique Welsh vernacular oak candle / soap box
Code: 10408
Dimensions:
A late Georgian Welsh vernacular oak wall mounting box, used to store candles or soap. This primitively constructed open wooden box would have been suspended for convenience.
Constructed in oak and found in original warm honey varnished finish. There is a single hanging hole to the domed top back plate.
Considering the box / tray section is rather shallow, it is most likely this was made to hold soap more so than candles.
Traditionally these were found in various parts of rural homes, whether it be within the main room, a wash room, or even outside. Often hung from walls, or even a piece of tall furniture. Primitive rural items like this are becoming increasingly harder to find, and equally more sought after.
Dimensions:-
