A 19th century oil on canvas, gypsy camp in the Lakes
Code: 10132
Dimensions:
A charming 19th century English school oil on canvas, depicting a traditional gypsy camp by water.
The scene is very well executed and the oils are well applied and vibrant.
The image is nicely balanced with the detailed camp to the foreground, set in what is most likely a known Lake District estuary.
To the centre sits a ruin of a possible church or abbey, and cattle are feeding at the water's edge.
The effect of a sunset over the fells on the horizon is particularly well done.
The canvas sits well in its period gilt frame.
Dimensions of frame:-
34,2cm high x 54.3cm wide
Aperture measures:-
19.5cm high x 39.7cm wide
In lovely condition with only very minor discolouration, no signs of restoration.
A minor repair to the bottom left corner of the inner frame.
Minor losses and wear to frame.
